Cinco de Mayo Monday

There is an awesome event that happens twice a year here in Austin.  The Pecan Street Festival is an artistic bonanza in downtown Austin.  They close down 6th Street, a main thoroughfare in Austin, and hundreds of artists display their wares in booths.  A few friends and I decided to take the Metrorail train downtown instead of fighting traffic, and trying to find a parking place downtown.  It was the first time I had ridden the Metrorail, and was an experience.

There was some confusion on where to park at the Metrorail Station.  It was not clearly marked in the areas around the station that there was towing if you parked in the business' parking area.  I had to move my car to a very poorly marked parking area a block away.  This was the first frustration.

The map of the route was confusing, they talked about zones, but the map did not indicate what the zones were. Frustration 2.

It was quite hot in Austin on Saturday, and the stops were not shaded, although the ticket machines were..  Doesn't make sense in Texas.

We were baking by the time the train arrived.  There were no seats available, so we had to stand.  There were not adequate hand rails to hang on to in the train, so it was difficult to stand.  Luckily it was only 10 minutes or so to downtown.

We meandered through the booths, stopping frequently for libation.  As I mentioned, it was quite hot in Austin.  And it was also Cinco de Mayo.

Sixth street is also a hot spot for nightlife.  There are a lot of bars on 6th street.  We stopped in one for refreshments in time to watch the Kentucky Derby.

It was fun watching the festivities on the tv, and chatting with all the people around us.

All in all, a very enjoyable day except for the heat.

Oh, and what you wonder, did I buy?

A cat magnet.  My big purchase.  And a few libations.........

And check out these itty bitty paws.  I love Dunkin's spats.

This N' That Thursday

I love orchids.  I still have a few, but before I bought my current house, I had a lot of orchids.  I mean a lot.

When I moved, the orchids didn't care for the light at my new house, and so I lost most of my plants.

At my old house, I loved this time of the year, cause all the orchids would bloom.
I had two bakers racks full of orchids.  The window faced south, and the orchids loved it.  They went nuts.

Here are some pictures of the prettiest.

This one had tiny flowers.  I lost the parent plant, but have several babies that have not bloomed yet.

This one was from Hawaii.  The flowers smelled like cloves.  So pretty.

This one is an oncidium orchid.  I think the flowers look like angels.

This one had a soft fragrance.

I am a sucker for spots and stripes.

Stripes.  Cool shape.

More stripes

Stripes and Spots.......

I miss the beauty, but I don't miss the 2 hours every weekend to water them all.  Now it takes me 20 minutes to water the survivors.  Wish I had something besides a west window for them.

Cute kitty photo op:

Dunkin loves this duck.

Three Kitteh Tuesday

Been going thru old photos, so today's post is visited by Rainbow Bridge Baby, Dusty.  Here is a photo of him from 2007.  I still miss his sweet presence.

He was such a gentle soul.  And so beautiful.  I remember when he passed away, my vet told me that male gray cats are always special.  Of course I was crying hysterically, so I could be mistaken.  He was a prince of a cat.
Guess it's going to be an all boy day.  Here is Joey.  I think he looks like a little panther.  He really loved Dusty.  Loved cuddling with him.
And last, but not least, here is Dunkin.  This picture really shows his golden eyes.  I love this little man.
